About this deal

Beyond its application as a telescope, Celestron advertises the AstroMaster 130mm as an optical device for both land and sky. To put this in context, I think that any upgrade that you might consider for the OTA is likely to cost you 5-10 times as much as the AM130 and that may or may not be worth it for you. I can't wait to see the Orion nebula through it I hope you have many of good nights with your telescope. Included as a bonus with the Celestron AstroMaster 130EQ is a CD containing the Starry Night Astronomy software, an invaluable tool for both beginners and seasoned astronomers.

After all, without quality optics, you won’t be able to see much when you’re observing, even in good seeing conditions. Beginners will be impressed by the sharpness, clarity, and contrast the AstroMaster provides, while more experienced stargazers may notice some slight aberrations when gazing through this scope. The CG-3 has a Vixen dovetail saddle so in theory you could put a different optical tube on it, but it wouldn’t really make financial sense to do so under most circumstances. It is an erecting eyepiece, which means it is capable of presenting images in their correct orientation, making it ideal for terrestrial viewing during the day. The Optical Tube Assembly (OTA) of the Celestron AstroMaster 130 EQ is a crucial component, comprising a durable metal tube adorned with plastic elements at both ends and featuring preassembled mounting rings with a dovetail bar. It would be nice to be able to choose where you place it, but it’s built into the frame of the optical assembly.

The DSLR/T-adapter/Barlow combination is quite long, and sticks out like a broom handle from the focuser. Take the Equatorial Mount and seat it on top of the tripod, securing it on with the captivated nut located underneath in the apex of the tripod. This thoughtful design consideration ensures that users have access to a variety of eyepieces to enhance their astronomical exploration. From their high-end CGX series to their entry-level PowerSeeker series, Celestron delivers astronomers of all skill levels the best in the industry. Would I need the motor to track objects for longer exposures, or is the motor purely for pointing in the right place, rather than tracking? This additional weight should be placed on the central body of the mount where the legs converge, and not on an accessory tray, which might not support the extra weight. Some users have complained that it’s difficult to polar align this mount, but we didn’t find that to be the case when evaluating the mount.

Also included is a useful red-dot finderscope, this is a smaller optical telescope, it offers a much wider field of view to help you easily find objects in the night sky before actually viewing them through your main telescope, this must be aligned accurately to your telescope before use. From the moon’s features to the rings of Saturn and Jupiter’s bands, you’ll enjoy impressive planetary views when using the Plössl eyepiece.

Therefore, with its F/5 focal ratio, the Celestron AstroMaster 130 EQ is especially well-suited for deep sky observations, enabling enthusiasts to explore fainter objects in greater detail and clarity. The motor that you get for beginners mounts isn't up to photography standards, They can be nice however for higher magnifications on planets. The bulk of the AstroMaster 130 scopes I’ve seen have had acceptable primary mirrors–usually not quite parabolic but not quite spherical either–but a few have had spherical primaries that made for mushy views. Parabolic mirrors offer an ideal contour for use in Newtonians, and they eliminate image aberrations that are common with cheaper mirrors.
