About this deal

While everyone else is watching the latest will-they-won’t-they comedy series, you’re binging true crime, aren’t you. Using 44 beautifully illustrated cards, players take turns trading evidence to get closer to the truth. This review uses an affiliate link which we may receive a small commission from if you purchase through the link. And you can solve a different crime, with the same victim, every time you play and have a different outcome.

in point: Case File, a game entirely revolving around bluffing and hidden information, does not tell you if you discard cards face down or face up, and such a blunder is beyond belief. At this point, the leading player can play one false evidence card if they choose, and then play moves to the right. It would make an excellent gift this Christmas for older children and teenagers and lots of fun to play together as a family. Although we did think that the card used could have been a bit thicker, it is a bit thin but doesn’t make any difference to the gameplay. When the game starts players can look at the cards they have been dealt and can mark these off in their case tracker, as they are holding the cards, they clearly can’t be part of the solution. When the first player says their chosen three pieces of evidence out loud that they are looking for, all other players must then see if they have any of these cards in their hand.

Can You Piece Together The Evidence To Figure Out Who Did It, How They Did It, And Most Importantly, Why? The player who asked for the cards can then choose to take up your offer or not, but must be aware that they could be handed evidence they’ve already eliminated, or red herrings. But be aware, there is false evidence floating around to throw you off the scent and other players can bluff, lie and deceive so you really do need to be sure of the evidence in front of you. The artwork on the cards and case trackers is very good and doesn’t feature any gory images, so is suitable for all players. The victim is always the same, but the final answer changes each time that you play as cards are selected at random, with 44 cards, there are near infinite possibilities. These also include various ability cards, which can be played to steal cards from opponents’ hands, have all players pass their hand to the player on their left, or just act as blank false evidence.
