About this deal

Singaporean Cliff Tan is an architect with over 15 years experience in planning and space optimisation.

I would have liked that space to be used for things like suggested colour palettes for different rooms, and more information on how to identify what rooms have what energy and how to identify energy imbalances. An enjoyable and informative read that gave me clear ideas about how to rearrange my furniture and make the most out of my space. Simple suggestions and illustrated diagrams describing flow of chi and proper location of furniture in desirable areas. That said, I do think this book can come in handy when you need a quick reference to something and if you prefer reading that watching videos, go for it!If you think of your home as a map, how can you ever feel like you belong if you can get lost in it? I found this author on TikTok and his videos were so helpful in explaining why some rooms feel cramped/uncomfortable - this book is a great reference!

It gives too much significance to the TV, as though suggesting it’s more important in your life than people. Starting from the very basics, he offers the reminder that while practicing feng shui in your spaces doesn't guarantee success, it never hurts to stack the deck in your favor - that having a well-designed, thought-out space to live and work in will definitely benefit you!

Tan very much eschews the more ~~woo~~ side of Feng Shui in this book - he doesn't necessarily dismiss the astrological aspects of it, but does consider personal introspection to be a better tool for finding your decorating tastes than calculations from your birth date. We recently rearranged a room with some of info I learned from the book and it really worked out well! Mack's youngest daughter, Missy, was abducted during a family vacation and evidence that she may have been brutally murdered is found in an abandoned shack deep in the Oregon wilderness. In Feng Shui for Modern Living, TikTok influencer Cliff Tan answers these questions and more, explaining the ancient practice of feng shui and how it can be translated to modern homes.

Some rules might not just be relevant in your home, it’s really more about a sensible approach to living well. Tan explains the reasoning behind core feng shui principles and encourages the reader to adapt based on what feels best individually. So if I were to name one problem with this book it's that he saves the anecdote about he got into the Feng Shui business to the afterwards when it should have been in the forward.
