About this deal

Eventually, as the case garners national attention she relents and takes in the trio as “civilian advisers” to help in the case. These 3 hoots are funny and unafraid when their amateur sleuthing make several connections, but the body count continues to climb. I need more of a story behind this thing because, to be honest, it sounds like she looks ridiculous. This was a fun read that gets points for having two elderly protagonists and a 40-something as the amateur sleuths.

Judith is convinced she knows who the murderer was from the get-go because she thought they seemed shady, and then spends the rest of the book trying to prove they did it. Each woman brings their own unrealized special talents to the forefront and they start uncovering shady and unsavory dirt on the murder victim and someone he'd fought with recently. Along the way she teams up with the vicar's wife, Becks Starling, as well as a free-wheeling local dog walker, Suzie Harris. While swimming one evening she hears a gunshot echo across the garden of her neighbor, local art gallery owner Stefan Dunwoody. The three women eagerly pursue clues, interview suspects, examine alibis, and realize they have a highly complex puzzle to solve.

She lives on her own in a faded mansion just outside Marlow, there’s no man in her life to tell her what to do or how much whisky to drink, and to keep herself busy she sets crosswords for The Times newspaper.

I recently came across The Marlow Murder Club by Robert Thorogood (the creator of the BBC drama Death in Paradise), that features a trio of very unlikely amateur sleuths trying to solve a series of murders in the sleepy town of Marlow and it was a very enjoyable whodunnit.
